How do I work out an average out of 5 on a survey with 24 questions, 5 choice answers and 18 responses?

None of what you asked really makes much sense. Whatever number you divide into 24, it isn't going to come out to exactly 5, unless you plug in some sort of decimal, and then how is that a question on a survey? Do some survey questions weigh more than others? Five choice answers plus 18 responses doesn't add up to 24 either. There doesn't seem to be a logical way to come up with what you want based on the data given.
